Berrington Hall - Herefordshire, England
Berrington’s parkland is one of the finest examples Capability Brown’s landscape architecture. Brown actually selected the site for the property prior to beginning work on the gardens. The house itself was designed by Henry Holland, who was to go on to build Carlton House for the Prince Regent. The plain neoclassical exterior belies the lavishness of the interior. The stair case hall, seen here, demonstrates “an extraordinary ability to use perspective and space to dramatic effect, as in an engraving by Piranesi”.
The house is open to the public via the National Trust.
